Smyrna, Georgia is the county seat of Cobb County and the largest city in the state's southeastern corner. It's a suburb of Atlanta, with a population of over 40,000 people. The city was founded by European Americans in 1872 as a railroad town, and it was incorporated in 1874. The name "Smyrna" comes from an ancient Greek city on the coast of Turkey; it was given its name because there were many Turkish settlers in the area.
